“When your legs scream stop and your lungs are bursting, that’s the hurt locker. Winners love it in there”

Chris McCormack

For businesses across the world, the last 12-months have been like the Alpe d’Huez of the Tour de France. A gruelling, twisting, unforgiving and steep climb. Many companies have failed. Many have transformed. And as the vaccine rolls out and we reach the summit, there’s only one thing left to do. Accelerate. And take that momentum onto the downhill and outpace the competition.

So, what can we learn from one of the true success stories of the pandemic? Zwift has captured the hearts of cyclists during the lockdowns, bringing the experience into the home via a virtual workout platform. At this 90-minute session Zwift’s VP of Engineering will talk to us about their journey from tens of users to 3M+, and the importance of deep engineering and building platforms to last.

Afterwards, the group will discuss parallels between the success of this platform business and our own clients’ businesses.

An Interview With… Roberto Duarte, VP Engineering at Zwift

Roberto joined Zwift shortly after its formation, joining the founders on a journey of growth that’s seen their membership rise from a tens of users pre-launch to over 3 million today. Roberto’s focus during this time was the platform that supports the application. Starting with one server back in 2015, Roberto designed and built out a deeply engineered, fast and resilient platform that today supports tens of thousands of concurrent users without failure or decline in performance.

Achieving this has necessitated a continuous quest for balancing speed and game play with availability and building for the long term. Drawing on his experiences from the Financial Services industry, Roberto has built the technology and the team that delivers Zwift to its membership globally.

What is the experience?

All of our virtual roundtables are focused, collaborative and informative. As a participant you join via video and – thanks to a keynote speaker and moderated discussion – take away actionable ideas to implement within your business and with your clients.

Prior to the virtual meeting taking place, each attendee is interviewed to understand their interests and perspective. Those who register early will also contribute towards the insight report, which will be published prior to the virtual meeting and will be the focus of the discussion.
